Lenovo IdeaPad U310 Review: An Attractive Design Beckons

First of all it must be stated that the Lenovo IdeaPad U310 is blessed with an attractive design which impressed us in this review. It has all the basic bells and whistles that you might expect from an Ultrabook. The screen size is 13-inches and you only get to pay $799. There are plenty of USB ports and some Ethernet features.  Unfortunately there is a perception (justified in many cases) that it is not as portable as we would like.

Specifications:  Last year we were treated to the U300s which were thin and light. Now there is a big challenge for the Lenovo IdeaPad U310 which is under review. They have failed to include any SSD-Only upgrade solutions and that has to surely count against the product. Nevertheless this is an all-round and decent Ultrabook. The pricing strategy is just right for students. You may want to consider the alternatives which fall within the price range if you are not prepared to put up with the occasional failings.

The Lenovo IdeaPad U310 benefits from a magnetic platter-type mechanical hard drive. This is meant to be a saving on the solid state drive that some people might prefer. They have used a 3rd gen 1.7GHz Intel Core i5-3317u processor. That entitles you to 4GB worth of RAM. It has a 501.70GB hard drive as well as a wide selection of ports including an SD Card Reader, Ethernet, USB 3.0 and HDMI. Some people have complained that this Ultrabook is not as sleek as its counterparts. For contrast you may try the Sony Vaio T. The latter product benefits from a lighter frame and a longer battery life.

Pros: The pricing strategy on this Ultrabook is astonishingly fair.

Cons: They have inevitably compromised on quality in order to attract value consumers.

Editor Rating: On its own terms this review recommends 4 stars out of 5 for the Lenovo IdeaPad U310.
